PVI Golf Program Overview
- This is a 12-member competitive, merit-based, co-ed, Varsity team (There is not a JV team)
- Strong prospects will need to already have a high golf IQ, be familiar with the rules of golf and be scoring between 40-45 for 9 holes. Prior tournament experience is desired.
- Tryouts are announced in late February, through PVI athletics communications and social media
- The season starts in March and goes until the end of May, which includes any post season tournaments for which we qualify.
- The WCAC schedule consists of 14-15 matches, with 50% of the matches being at our home course.
- The top 6 players compete in the matches, and they typically score between 36-39 for 9 holes.
- The format of WCAC matches is “match play”, however we also compete for Virginia State Titles, so a valid stroke play score is also kept.
- Our home course is Chantilly National Country Club
- Practices will be scheduled between matches, but not more than 1 or 2 per week
- Players are expected to practice on their own during the off-season with their swing coaches (if they have one) and to be self-motivated to always be improving their game, both mentally and physically.
- Strong academics, good organizational skills and communication skills are desired qualities, along with the ability to fit in well in a team setting.
- Uniforms are provided.
- Transportation is provided to away matches, however transportation to home matches and practices is NOT provided.
- Parental support, involvement and engagement is part of this program’s culture, and we host several post-match alcohol free tailgates each year for players and their families, and we encourage parents and fans to come to our matches and to follow us on social media.
